Our Alaska adventure begins and ends in Seattle, where the city skyline, Puget Sound and snowcapped mountains set the stage for the week ahead. Come in a day early and the vacation starts before we even sail, with our Social Vacations hotel meet & greet and a chance to meet the people you’ve been chatting with in Telegram. Then it’s time to board Virgin Voyages, grab a drink with your new travel crew and watch Seattle fade into the distance as we head north toward Alaska.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Welcome to Alaska! Ketchikan is a colorful waterfront town surrounded by mountains, dense rainforest and some of Southeast Alaska’s most spectacular scenery. Wander the historic boardwalks of Creek Street, discover the area’s rich Native Alaskan culture, head out in search of whales and wildlife, take a floatplane over the wilderness, or chase waterfalls through the Tongass National Forest. Whether you’re looking for a big adventure or just want to explore town with some new friends, Ketchikan is a fantastic introduction to Alaska.
Sitka, Alaska
Wedged between forest-covered mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Sitka combines incredible wilderness, Alaska Native culture and fascinating Russian history in one seriously beautiful little town. Spend the day hiking through temperate rainforest, exploring the waterfront and historic sites, spotting bald eagles, searching for whales and sea otters, or simply wandering around with people you’ve met on the cruise. Sitka feels a little wilder and less polished than many cruise ports, which is a big part of its charm.
Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska
This might be the day that steals the entire trip. Tracy Arm Fjord is a spectacular wilderness of towering granite cliffs, snow-covered mountains, waterfalls, floating ice and glaciers, and we’ll experience it while cruising right through the middle of it. Grab some coffee, find a great viewing spot with your Social Vacations friends and keep your eyes open for seals, whales and other wildlife along the way. It’s one of those rare travel experiences where putting your phone down for a few minutes and simply looking around may be the best thing you do all week.
Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Our final port takes us across the border to Prince Rupert, a laid-back Canadian coastal town surrounded by islands, mountains and the lush Great Bear Rainforest. It’s an incredible region for wildlife, with opportunities to search for whales, eagles and other coastal wildlife, explore local First Nations culture, wander the waterfront or head into the surrounding wilderness. With an afternoon and evening in port, there’s plenty of time to explore before heading back aboard and meeting up with your Social Vacations crew for another night on the ship.
